Band

Why should I be in the band at Sunbright? Learn to play an instrument, meet new friends, go on fun trips, learn to read music, and learn to play some really cool music!!
Does it cost money? Very, Very rarely students will need to buy certain accessories for instruments, such as reeds, oils, etc. That ranges from $1-10. Our band provides a majority of those key items. We have MANY school instruments that can be loaned out to students, or students can rent/buy their own from local shops or Rush's Music close by in Knoxville, TN.

The Sunbright Music Program consists of several ensemble options for our students:
"The Pride of The Jungle" Tiger Marching Band
(Fall Semester + after school Thursday 3:30-5)
Our resurrected and redefined marching band is the premiere ensemble of our music programs. This ensemble introduces students to many opportunities, no matter their career path. Students have the opportunity to build important leadership qualities through our band student leadership, attend home games and perform at events and competitions across our state and neighboring states, field trips/parades, and much more! The marching band consists of robust brass, lush and powerful woodwinds, a booming drumline, and our beautiful newly resurrected color guard! It doesn't stop there, either! Students will also have the option of guitar, bass, and piano!
Here at Sunbright, it is imperative students have as many options as possible. Each student in our ensemble doesn't play just one instrument; some play all of them!

Prior to the semester, their is a small band camp (usually the last week before school, details sent out in April) where students learn instruments, and hone their skills for our half-time show! We attend 2-3 competitions and all home games, and push ourselves out of into the community with other special events.
If there is a class conflict, no problem! Many students are only able to attend after school practices!

Sunbright Tiger Concert Band
(Fall semester+ after school Thurs 3:30-5)
Our concert band consists of mostly the same instrumentation. Usually when football season is over, we switch our mindset to intensively progress ourselves on our instruments. This is the time where we hone our skills on our instruments!
There are many opportunities with concert band, including festivals, competitions, individual solo pursuits, and performing with college bands. Recently, several of our students spent two days in Kentucky working with world class music teachers and students at the University of the Cumberlands!

Sunbright Tiger Middle and Elementary Concert Band
(after school Wednesday 3:30-5)
This ensemble includes students from 5th-7th grades, and our focus is to hone their skills on an instrument, and expand their capabilities. Students will learn cool, fun music, and also have field trip opportunities! This is also a major timeline in each students life, as learning an instrument improves fine motor skills and critical thinking skills (essential for any career path in life!). Students can use their personal instruments, borrow school-owned instruments, or rent/purchase from "Rush's Music" located close by in Knoxville, TN. Rush's will usually send out representatives so students can buy instrument accessories as needed at least once a month.
